Viime viikko (osa 3) - Last week (part 3)

On Monday (Dec 5) D and I took the train to Helsinki to attend the graduation ceremony of the other students at my school. (since I wasn't actually taking part in it) We also met up with my parents and sibling on town in the evening, and we had a cup of coffee. After that we walked around the city center with them, in the rain, to have a look at all the Christmas-themed shop windows (the pictures are of the one at Stockmann). On the evening, when we returned to my grandparents the first snow had fallen.

Tiistaina, itsenäisyyspäivänä, kävimme D:n kanssa kävelyllä ottamassa kuvia lumisesta maisemasta. Kävimme myös saunassa, söimme kakkujen tähteitä ja katsoimme televisiota, vaikka Linnan Juhlat eivät D:n makuun oikein olleetkaan.

Tuesday was the Finnish Independence Day, and D and I celebrated it by going for a stroll in the snowy surroundings with the camera. We also went to sauna, ate cake left-overs and watched TV, although the party broadcast from the Presidential palace wasn't really D's cup of tea.

On Wednesday it was time for D to go back to NL, although he had some trouble getting there, the trouble being the bad weather in Amsterdam. It was such a strange feeling when we saw the notification "flight cancelled" on the big board at Helsinki-Vantaa. Our first reaction was laughing hysterically and a ridiculously wide smile. Luckily (or unfortunately, however you want to think about it) D got tickets to a flight home for the same evening, and he left Finland only half an hour late from the original schedule. D was joking that the whole thing was my fault, I had arranged the bad weather, but if I happened to have such supernatural powers I would throw in one more volcano eruption in Iceland that would keep people from flying for several weeks. The only good thing about the whole ridiculous incident was that we didn't feel like crying that much when saying good bye at the airport.
